International Pizza Challenge

The Largest U.S. Pizza-Making Competition

Since its debut in 2007, the International Pizza Challenge has grown in prestige and prize money to become one of the most esteemed pizza-making competitions in North America and possibly the world.

Pizza makers compete in 8 divisions: Traditional, Non-Traditional, Neapolitan/STG, Pan, World’s Best Cheese Slice, Classica, Bacio Legacy Non-Traditional, and Daiya Dairy-Free Pizza. The competition will feature 680 of the world’s top pizza makers, each baking their signature pizza live at Pizza Expo. Their creations will be judged by a panel of renowned, accredited chefs.

The bake-offs run Tuesday through Thursday in the International Pizza Challenge contest area. Division winners will then face off in a mystery ingredient showdown to determine who will be crowned Pizza Maker of the Year.

What's Judging Based On?

Contestants bring their own ingredients. Show management provides refrigeration space, equipment, and ovens. Judging panels are composed of impartial chefs, food critics, and others from the pizzeria industry, and they score each pie using the following criteria:

  • Pizzas for all divisions will be scored against themselves based on how well they deliver on each judgement category, using a scale of 1-10, by a panel of expert judges These categories include a combination of crust, sauce, cheese, toppings, bake, overall taste, creativity, and appearance depending on the division, with an emphasis on culinary attributes.
  • The top five (5) scoring competitors from the Cheese, Traditional, Non-Traditional, Pan, Classica, and Neapolitan divisions based on total points will advance to the Finals on Thursday from 8am-11am (7am mandatory meeting) and the winner from each division’s finals will advance to the Pizza Maker of the Year competition.
  • Decisions by the judges are final in all aspects of this contest.
